There was a palatable feeling of urgency when I was last in Berlin. In 1987 the wall was in full force, many people in Berlin were trying desperately to go somewhere, away from the east, to the west mainly.
When we came to Berlin we did not sleep for 2 days, my friend and I played gigs day and night, met musicians and had some of the best times of our lives. It seemed like the city did not sleep. Sleep was for people that had time to waste, the ones that knew they could get out if the wall fell, they had visas and money to make it out to the world.
It made Berlin one hell of a party city
