Courtney killed Kurt
Even after Kurt wrote the "Live through this" Hole album .... that is the best Cobain solo record ever recorded .... After seeing the documentary on this, I do think that Courtney Love is Psycho.
Seeing this cassette of that record brought it all back.

The Germans
There was a palatable feeling of urgency when I was last in Berlin. In 1987 the wall was in full force, many people in Berlin were trying desperately to go somewhere, away from the east, to the west mainly.
When we came to Berlin we did not sleep for 2 days, my friend and I played gigs day and night, met musicians and had some of the best times of our lives. It seemed like the city did not sleep. Sleep was for people that had time to waste, the ones that knew they could get out if the wall fell, they had visas and money to make it out to the world.
It made Berlin one hell of a party city

From the begining
In 1972 I got my first guitar. The guy that gave it to me taught me how to play "Hey mister tambourine man".... I've always felt a bit proud that the first song I ever played was a Dylan tune.
I'm not sure why though. Dylan is a bit of an enigma, at once as deep as the ocean and a shallow as Britney Spears. When Dylan turned his back on the folk movement and applied his considerable talent to a more pop asthetic it makes me feel that all the songs he did before "Like a rolling stone" were just an exercise, experiment, part of a performance art piece that only he knew was going on.
The year that happened ... I was born ... and it still managed to affect me.
Anyway, this pic reminds me of that day, when I was seven years old sitting on the piano bench learning that first song.

Frisco
Word to the wise .... only tourists and Bikers (Motor Cyclists, of the tougher ilk, mustache and denim vest required) call San Francisco 'Frisco'.
This pic was taken on my way home last night.
The Bay Bridge extends across the bay in two sections. In the middle of the two sections there is Treasure Island. This pic was taken from the vista point on the island.

Reds
I've never been inside Reds. It seems like a cool spot, there has to be some history there. I bet when the docks were a more active place the longshoremen used to fill the place up in the early morning and drink coffee, then stop for grog at night.
Something tells me the coffee there has not kept up with the times though. I have this vision of Foldgers percolating in a gallon coffee pot for hours on end. I'm sure thay make a fresh pot once a day or so.... who needs Starbucks!

What a weekend
Friday, solo gig, Saturday morning West Coast Live, Saturday night Apple Jacks. Sunday after running erands I got to sit down for 15 min before going to Sunday diner with Grandma.
I'm one burnt cookie.
But it was fun, got to play with some great players on the west coast live gig, including Tom Heyman, from Chuck Prophet's Band and James Nash from the Waybacks
Turns out that James is more of a music tech head than I am .... almost. :)
Now .... I have a bad case of the mondays.....

The joy of looking arround
I'll be on West Coast Live today. It should provide an interesting opportunity to take some photos ... will be playing 3 songs, over 2 hours ... lots of down time.
I had to wake up at 5:30 am to make sure I would be there and ready ... sheesh .... I though being a rock star meant never having to be up till 1:00pm!

It's a guy thing
Most guys walking down the street, upon seeing a 56 Porsche convertible will stop dead in their tracks, if only for a moment, and dream...
All of a sudden you are rich, and powerful. You are driving the car down Highway 1 on a beautiful day with the top down. The wind is blowing though your hair (dreadlocks in my case) and your cares are miles down the road behind you.
You left them in Recita. We all leave our cares in Recita, to die with the porn stars.

Taps
Taps was playing in remembrance of all the fallen soldiers who fought in all of the wars.
I couldn't help but think of all of the others that have died, the civilians, the children, the wives, the mothers, the brothers, the contractors, the mercenaries, the freedom fighters, the bystanders .... the dreams ....
We have no songs for them.... perhaps a moment of silence is best.
Then speak with a loud voice, together... "stop the wars"

Steel Guitar
Today I am not a musician, I'm a sound man. This is an odd thing for me ... I've been the guy playing, not the guy watching, for 30 years.
I'll have some fun anyway. But I want to play more than anything else in this life.... almost anything else...

Shoegazer
I spent an inordinate amount of time getting this shot. Over 4 days. I would go and shoot and look at the results and nix them for one reason or another..... wrong shoes, didn't notice some trash in the frame, didnt get the DOF right...
But I got it! And the result is truly un-amazing.... but fits well in the context of the series as a whole.
